Is Kratom the new CBD?

Posted on July 7, 2020 by jonny Posted in Modern Wellness .

Hipsters knew about CBD before most people, but now everybody knows about it and its reported benefits. As such, hipsters are looking for the next best thing. Some people believe that psilocybin (the stuff that’s in magic mushrooms) is the next naturally occurring drug to hit the legal markets. But, what if it’s not? What if instead, kratom, which is already legal in most states, starts to take off?

Why Hipsters Might Choose Kratom

Kratom is relatively mild compared to many alternatives. It’s a tropical tree that grows in Southeast Asia, and it’s part of the coffee family. This evergreen, also known as mitragyna speciosa is native to countries like Thailand and Indonesia, which makes it super-cool. People report effects ranging from stimulation to anxiety relief. In fact, people report that they are able to get off of highly addictive opioids by switching to kratom, as it hits the same receptors in the brain.

Should You Try Kratom?

I’m not going to tell you to follow every trend out there. If you’re happy with your life, and you don’t suffer from opioid addiction or high anxiety, then you probably don’t need to try kratom. That said, it might give you a mild, natural high, so you may want to try kratom. In the end, it’s up to you. Be sure to do your research as it is not meant for unhealthy individuals or non-adults. It could also have dangerous side effects, like any drug (including caffeine and alcohol). If you’re not sure, then maybe start with CBD first, and then go from there.

Hipsters, Mindfulness and the Cult of Wellness

If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, then you might remember M.C. Hammer pants (aka clown pants). These were popular among the bodybuilding community, because they were comfortable and baggy with elastic waist-bands. So, a juiced-up muscle-head with a 27″ waist and tree-trunk quads could wear them comfortably. Muscle mags everywhere were covered in mullets and clown pants—it was great.

The Replacement of Bodybuilding With Healthy Living

Today, most people have graduated from a desire for gargantuan quads (and biceps) to a goal of living a more holistic, wellness lifestyle. Clown pants have been replaced with skinny jeans, and guys sticking each other in the glutes with GHB have been replaced with people like Joe Rogan advocating for healthy testosterone replacement, and topical testosterone deodorant sticks for men with Low T.

The Cult of Wellness

Mindfulness has also grown by leaps and bounds as a lifestyle choice. People used to call that good manners. Times have changed, but some things have stayed the same. Wellness advocates have cult-followings who read virtually every wellness book in print. Certainly this is better than the cults of the 70s, as people have replaced Kool-Aid fueled mass suicides with mindfulness retreats to exotic islands and corporate mushroom trips.

Hipsters, Anxiety and Modern Culture

Posted on April 13, 2020 by jonny Posted in Modern Wellness .

Anxiety is a common problem in modern culture. This is especially true in the urban areas where hipsters reside. Life moves quickly, and people experience sensory overload. Young people graduate college and have no clear career paths, and lots of debt. Is there a cure?
