Anxiety is a common problem in modern culture. This is especially true in the urban areas where hipsters reside. Life moves quickly, and people experience sensory overload. Young people graduate college and have no clear career paths, and lots of debt. Is there a cure?
One hopeful direction is the self-care movement. Hipsters, and others, are reading up on anxiety, to learn its causes, and ways to cope with its symptoms. And, they’re learning that the answer today is the same as it was centuries ago.
Practice Self-Care
For starters, take care of yourself. Work out a few times per week, and eat a healthy diet. Keep up with your social connections. And work on understanding your strengths and weaknesses. Then, work to improve your overall state of wellbeing.
Keep a Journal
Go to the store, or Amazon, and pick up a writing journal. It’s not hard to spend a few minutes each day to write down (or type) your thoughts. But, don’t just write. Instead, apply a theme to your journal. For example, write about those things for which you are most grateful. Do this every day, and you might find yourself thankful for what you do have, rather than anxious about things that are outside of your control.
The Hardest Step is the First Step
If you want to improve your state of wellness, then take the first step. If you can make it over the first hurdle, the rest is much easier. Exercise for five minutes. Eat one healthy meal. Write one paragraph in your journal. Then, take it from there.
